A story that begins in the vines
La Croix des Champs is mentioned as early as 1576 as a winemaking outbuilding of the Clos de Crans, on the eastern shore of Lake Annecy.

First written mention of the estate as a winemaking outbuilding of the Clos de Crans.
The Barnabites, a Milanese religious order, acquire the property and develop viticulture.
The Sautier-Thyrion family takes over the estate. The vaulted cellar, reception rooms and bedrooms are created.
A double-screw wine press is installed in the cellar. The farm completes the ensemble in 1852.
Savoy is annexed to France. Local wine now competes directly with Burgundy.
A stone cross is erected and gives the estate its definitive name.
Three siblings launch a complete restoration of the property.
Opening to the public after two years of works and compliance upgrades.
Five years of activity. La Croix des Champs continues to write its story.
Preserving by opening up
Passed down to seven brothers and sisters in the early 2010s, the property became the focus of a founding decision. Three of them chose to dedicate their energy to it: restoring what needed to be restored, preserving what makes its soul, and opening its doors, with rigour, to exceptional private events.
The thinking is guided by an idea borrowed from The Leopard: "Everything must change so that nothing changes." Opening the house to the public becomes the means of keeping it intact.
Works began in 2018. For two years, the house was fully restored and brought up to standard while preserving its defining features: French ceilings, vaulted cellar, wine press and 19th-century terraces.
